901 Day in Memphis isn’t just about celebrating our city—it’s also about honoring the landmarks that have shaped its identity. This year, the spotlight shines on The Peabody Memphis, the “South’s Grand Hotel,” which first opened its doors on September 1, 1925.
For a century, The Peabody has been more than a place to spend the night. Its ballrooms once echoed with big band music, its halls welcomed presidents and celebrities, and its lobby has been a meeting ground for generations of Memphians. Every corner of the hotel holds a piece of our city’s history—moments that ripple outward into the larger story of Memphis itself.

And then, of course, there are the Peabody Ducks. What began as a quirky tradition has grown into an iconic ritual that brings joy to guests from around the world. Their march across the marble lobby floor isn’t just charming—it’s living proof of how traditions can become woven into the fabric of a city. 🦆
The Peabody reminds us that buildings can hold far more than brick and mortar. They can carry memory, community, and the heartbeat of a place. As Memphis looks ahead, we celebrate not just 100 years of The Peabody’s past, but the new chapters of history that will continue to be written within its walls.
Here’s to the next century of tradition, elegance, and stories still waiting to unfold.
