Labor Day is more than a long weekend—it’s a reminder to honor the hands that build, shape, and carry traditions forward. Behind every craft, every skill passed down, there are countless hours of dedication that transform labor into legacy.
This is Roddy MacLellan of MacLellan Bagpipes. His workshop in Zebulon, North Carolina, is filled with the sound of tools, the scent of wood, and the patience required to create instruments that will outlive their maker. Every cut, every curve, and every polished detail is part of a bigger story—one that echoes through music, culture, and history.

Photographing Roddy at his bench reminded me that hard work is never just about labor. It’s about passion and perseverance. It’s about pouring yourself into something meaningful, knowing it will resonate with others long after you’ve stepped away.
On this Labor Day, here’s to the artisans, builders, and dreamers. To those keeping their craft alive, preserving traditions, and creating beauty that matters.
