Out of the Bunker: The FedEx St. Jude Championship

Sand flying. Sun blazing. Crowds locked in.

This year’s PGA TOUR FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind delivered all the drama Memphis golf fans could ask for — and I was lucky enough to be right there with my camera in hand.

While the highlight reels often show the perfect putts dropping on the green, some of the most electric moments happen in the rough. There’s something about a bunker shot — the tension in the swing, the explosion of sand, the crowd holding its breath — that captures the battle between player and course in its rawest form. For a photographer, those are the frames you wait for: grit, motion, and split-second precision frozen in time.

The atmosphere at TPC Southwind was unforgettable, from the heat of the August sun to the energy of the galleries that followed every group. It’s more than golf — it’s Memphis on full display, combining world-class sports with community, excitement, and a cause that matters.
