Waiting on Autumn in the Smokies

It might not feel like it yet, but fall is just around the corner. Soon enough, the Smoky Mountains will trade summer’s greens for the fiery palette of autumn — hillsides glowing in gold, orange, and deep red, with every valley painted in light.
There’s nothing quite like fall in the Smokies. The air sharpens, the trails quiet down, and the mountains seem to breathe differently under the weight of color. For a photographer, it’s one of the best seasons to chase light — watching how it filters through the trees, catches on ridgelines, and reflects in streams that cut through the landscape.
In just a few months, I’ll be back there, camera in hand, chasing those fleeting moments when the mountains light up in their autumn glow. It’s a reminder that seasons shift, but beauty always returns in cycles — familiar, yet brand new each time.
